My name is Mick Clancy.
I have always loved working with timber, mainly due to my father being a Cabinet Maker. I have fond memories of him teaching me how to use tools as a young boy and spending Saturday mornings with him in the factory. He loved smelling the timber (nothing wrong with that) and was renowned for being an excellent craftsman.
I ended up being more attracted to welding as I became an adult and came back to working with wood after some years.
The natural progression was to combine both, and hence the name......... Steel 'n Grain.
Having lived in Gippsland for most of my life, I feel it's vitally important to support local businesses. I buy my timber from Gippsland timber mills or reclaim it from old demolished buildings, use Australian steel and get all my powder coating done here in Warragul. So many of my customers are Gippslanders and many have told me they are also avid supporters of local products.
I look forward to making more local furniture for those that appreciate handmade quality.
